How is the guidon held at quick time?

Slung over the shoulder

Held at hip with staff vertical

Tucked under arm

Carry Guidon

In quick time, the guidon should be carried, not stowed or improvised. This means the guidon staff is held in the right hand, kept close to the body with the staff vertical along the right side so the flag remains visible and stable as you move. Slung over the shoulder or tucked under the arm would obscure or hinder the guidon and break marching discipline, and holding it at the hip with the staff vertical isn’t the standard posture for quick-time marching. Carrying the guidon in the hand ensures it travels with the formation in a proper, ready position.
